Michael Komin, M.D.
I grew up in the small farming community of Shafter, California. After completing my Surgical and Family Practice Residency at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, Ca., I accepted a position at Aviation Street Medical on the outskirts of Shafter, Ca., where I practiced Family Medicine, Aviation Medicine (AME) and Industrial Medicine. In 2005, I opened a new office in Shafter, Ca. and established Komin Medical Group to care for the medically underserved community. Komin Medical Group has been serving Shafter for over 17 years and is a certified California Rural Health Center. I currently practice Family Medicine, serve as Senior AME, HIMS and practice Corporate Medicine.
Peter Shaw, M.D.
I have a diverse background in the health care field. I initially started working for a professional football team as an athletic trainer which led to a brief career as a Chiropractor, before entering medical school. After completing my medical residency training at Kern Medical. I accepted a position at National Health Services (Now Omni), where I practiced Family Medicine in a rural setting caring for the medically underserved community. My time with NHS (Omni now) was focused on women’s health. I was the only Family Medicine provider with the organization at the time credential to perform OB deliveries at Kern Medical. After, 4 years I decided to take a per diem position at Kaiser Permanente working in their Urgent Care. At the time I was considering returning to a residency training program in OB/GYN. However, I found the Urgent Care work very exciting and satisfying. Within 6 months of accepting a full-time position with Kaiser Permanente in the Urgent Care, I was name the “Physician in Charge” of the Urgent Care. Over the next 6 years, I worked tirelessly to help transform the Urgent Care from a poor performing appointment-based clinic, to a high volume, high acuity, and walk in Urgent Care. After accomplishing my goals and wanting to spend more time with family, I asked to step down from my leadership position. I continue to work as a medical provider in the Urgent Care, where I retired from in October 24,2020.
